Most guests describe warmth, tingling and a stinging that builds for a few minutes and then settles — a fan and cool air keep it comfortable, and light peels are milder still. Medium and deeper peels sting more while they are on the skin, which is one reason the depth is chosen with you at the consultation. There are no needles and no anaesthetic is needed.

It depends on the peel. The PRX-T33 peel has little to no visible downtime and no peeling, so you can return to daily activities almost immediately. Light peels such as the Chemical Peel and Vitalize flake lightly for two or three days. Medium and deeper peels — the VI Peel and a TCA peel — involve light to moderate visible peeling for several days, usually from about day three for up to a week, as the skin renews itself. Your aesthetician explains what to expect for the peel recommended for you, so you can plan around events.

Some guests notice visible improvement after just one peel, especially light peels for dullness and congestion. Acne scarring, hyperpigmentation and sun damage usually respond best to a series — commonly three to six sessions, decided with your aesthetician. The Cosmelan program is a single in-clinic application followed by home care.

Lighter peels may be repeated every three to four weeks to maintain clarity and texture; medium peels such as the VI Peel and PRX-T33 are spaced four to six weeks apart; deeper TCA peels are spaced further apart to give the skin time to regenerate. Your plan is set at the consultation.

Yes, when the peel matches the skin. Every skin type can be peeled, but medium and darker skin tones have a higher risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation after aggressive peels, so for those skin tones we favour the PRX-T33, a light peel or the Cosmelan program and build up gradually. Chemical peels help improve the appearance of acne scars by encouraging the skin to shed damaged cells and rebuild with new collagen. Shallow, early scars and post-acne marks respond to the Vitalize, VI Peel or PRX-T33; more established, textured scarring usually needs a TCA peel over a series. Deep, indented scars may need microneedling as well — your consultation tells you honestly what a peel can and cannot do for your scars.

For melasma and hormonal pigmentation we recommend the Cosmelan depigmentation program, which regulates melanin production rather than relying on peeling, so existing pigmentation gradually lightens while new discoloration is discouraged. Sun spots and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation often respond to a series of VI Peel or PRX-T33 treatments. Daily SPF is essential with either, or the pigmentation returns.

Avoid sun exposure and tanning for about two weeks before a peel — tanned or sunburnt skin cannot be peeled safely — and protect the new skin with SPF 30+ every day afterwards, for at least two weeks and ideally always. In Colorado's high-altitude sun this is the aftercare rule we repeat most.

Yes. Stop retinol, tretinoin and other retinoids, exfoliating acids (glycolic, salicylic, lactic) and scrubs about five to seven days before your peel, and restart only when your aesthetician tells you to — usually once peeling has finished. Recent Accutane use also matters; mention it at the consultation.

Several peel ingredients are not recommended in pregnancy or while breastfeeding, so we ask you to book the free consultation, tell your aesthetician, and check with your own healthcare provider first. She will tell you which, if any, options are appropriate now and plan the rest for later.

Fall and winter. Less sun means new skin is easier to protect, and the medium and deeper peels — VI Peel, TCA and Cosmelan — are best done between October and March when you are not spending long days outside. Light peels and the no-downtime PRX-T33 are fine year-round with diligent SPF.
