Filler Dissolving Treatment in Denver

Filler dissolving is an injection of hyaluronidase, an enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid — the material that most dermal fillers are made of. Hylenex is the FDA-approved, recombinant human form of that enzyme. Its FDA approval is for helping other injected drugs disperse and for fluid administration; using it to dissolve filler is an off-label use, which is the standard of care everywhere it is done and is performed here by our aesthetic injector under medical supervision.

Only hyaluronic-acid fillers: Teoxane RHA, JUVÉDERM, Restylane, BELOTERO, Revanesse and their relatives. Sculptra and RADIESSE are different materials and cannot be dissolved with hyaluronidase; they fade on their own over one to two years. If you are not sure what you were given, bring what paperwork you have and the injector will assess the area anyway.

Some areas need a second session, particularly lips that have been filled many times, and that is booked and charged separately once the first result has settled.

It stings for a few seconds per injection, about like the filler did going in. Numbing cream is available beforehand if you want it, and the whole thing is over in minutes. The lips are usually tender and swollen for a day or two afterwards.

Hyaluronidase starts working within hours. Most people see the area soften the same evening and the full result within 24 to 48 hours. Older, denser or repeatedly-layered filler can take a second session to clear completely.

A little, temporarily. Your body makes new hyaluronic acid continuously and the effect on your own tissue is short-lived, which is why the area can look slightly deflated for a week or two before it settles. The enzyme is inactive within a day or so; it does not keep working.

We ask you to wait at least two weeks so the enzyme is fully gone and the swelling has settled, otherwise the new product can be dissolved along with the old. Many guests book the free filler consultation for the two-week mark so the injector can plan the refill from a clean base. Filler here starts at $600 a syringe.

Swelling, bruising and tenderness for a day or two are normal. Uncommon: temporary over-dissolving, where the area looks flatter than before until your own tissue recovers. Rare: an allergic reaction to the enzyme, which is why we screen for bee-sting and hyaluronidase allergy every time and offer a patch test. Serious reactions are very rare, and the injector is trained to manage them.

Not usually, but it is offered to anyone with a history of significant allergies, previous reactions to injections, or simply a preference for caution. A tiny dose is placed in the forearm and watched for fifteen minutes. There is no charge for it.

You can drive yourself home and go back to work the same day. Avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol and heat for 24 hours, sleep with your head slightly raised the first night, and do not massage the area unless the injector told you to. Makeup can go on the next morning.
